The Environmental Storytelling of Alice in Wonderland

For my capstone, I broke down and analyzed the use of landscape imagery in Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass. This study is separated into 4 different sections. The first is the role plants and gardens play, the second is how the manipulation of time influences the setting, the third is how does Carroll turn the animal-human dynamic on its head, and the fourth is the influence of food on the setting. Additionally, I will compare quotes and their illustrations from two different editions of Alice’s Adventures and Through The Looking Glass that describe an aspect of the environment, the Penguin Classics edition, published in 1865, with John Tenniel illustrations and the Pennyroyal edition with illustrations from Barry Moser.
