We are now passing through country which was once a great winter resort, with ski Jumps, Toboggan slides, etc. very much in evidence. There is still some snow on some of the hills in spite of the summer weather. I received 10 letters today. Hit the sack at 2000.

Thursday, April 12 [1945] No Location Given
Up at 0600. Shaved and had breakfast by 0800. Spent the morning getting ready for a move. Had several hours to wait around doing nothing. Wrote several letters and rested. About 1700, we started off through forested country along a dark narrowed road. I kept my machine Gun traversing the side of the road because this country is infested with small pockets of bypassed Jerries. We passed through about 10 miles of such country at slow speeds and as darkness approached, pulled off in a small clearing, pitched our tents, set up our security and hit the sack at about 2000. There is a beautiful mountain stream right near our area. A light casting rod with me on one end of it would do a lot of good. I noticed several hungry looking trout. I’ll try to shoot a couple tomorrow, if I get the chance.

Friday, 13 April [1945] Remda, Germany 1 Remda‐Teichel is a town in the district of Saalfeld‐Rudolstadt in Thuringia, Germany. See Map, Site #29.
Up at 0600. Had breakfast at 0700 and then went for a short walk in the woods. I went about 300 yards straight into the woods and then began to circle so that I would come out at the same point which I had entered. I met an old woman carrying a basket [continued on next page.]
