Friday, 27 October [1944] Littlecote
Another one of those uneventful days, which seem to drag along. Did little during the day. Went to bed early. Had a good night’s sleep.

Saturday, 28 October [1944] Littlecote
Worked ‘Til noon. Went to Hungerford and put up at the 3 Swans Hotel.1 The Three Swans Hotel was formerly a coaching inn built in 1300. The Three Swans Hotel is located in Hungerford, Berkshire, England. Despite being over 700 years old, it is still in use. “Best Western-Three Swans Hotel.” Accessed April 24, 2014. Threeswans.co.uk Visited friends in the afternoon. Went to a show that night, with the Pollord family. We saw a war picture that has its setting in the south Pacific. It was very good.

Sunday, 29 October [1944] Littlecote
Spent the day visiting the Nicholas family in Hungerford. Met an old gentleman who had been a foreign correspondent for Times (London) for 30 years. We played bridge and swapped stories for several hours. Went back to camp about 2300. Hit the sack.

Monday, 30 October [1944] Littlecote
Some talk of leaving Littlecote, soon.  I certainly hope so. I have made some friends in the paratroopers and am eager to get over where the fighting is in progress. The Paratroopers and infantrymen deserve a lot of credit. They are doing a wonderful job under very difficult conditions.

Today was Pay Day. I am having a hundred dollars sent home each month so my pay amounted [continued on next page]
