[Continued from previous page] I am sure that most of the men enjoyed them. The ship is fitted with a loud speaking, system that is very good. We have music all day long and receive an occasional news broadcast from the B.B.C. They show movies in the enlisted mens lounge and vary it with an occasional show. We have lots of talent aboard the ship. They are rigging up a boxing ring on deck. We have several boxers in our outfit, who are rather good – B.Btry should come off with some of the honors. The canteen opened today – candy, cig, pepsi cola, and biscuits (English style) cigars also (I bought 3 boxes). We eat mostly canteen food. I took a shower in salt water today-a helluva experience (a helluva ship).

Day’s run 338 miles (total 2306). The sea has calmed down considerably and the weather is clear. After boat drill, we had boxing matches. They were very interesting but B.Btry had no contenders this time. The last bout a heavy weight engagement was a source of much comment. The man who won was a 230 lb. individual whose idea of boxing was to butt his opponent and try to mash him against the ropes. He won but not by popular acclaim. One of our men (Germane – 185 lbs.) did not like the decision so he challenged this monster for the championship of the boat. He seems rather confident and so do we. I can’t help but feel that he is going to bring us a victory. I have placed a small bet that he will win.
