[continued from previous page] Up at 0600. Another cloudy day and a rather quiet one. Our vehicles are in splendid condition and we are prepared for a long move. Bob left this afternoon. The 2D platoon pulled out with the 912th F.A. We went for a short hike this morning and got a deer. It will be a welcome supplement to “C” and “K” rations. No mail today. Hit the sack at 2200.
Thursday, 5 April [1945] Villmar, Germany
Up at 0600. Spent the day trying to improve our already perfect maintenance. March ordered at 1400 but orders were changed and we repitched our tents for another night. We are impatient to be off. The weather was cloudy and wet. Bombers pass over, night and day. The weather deters them very little, if at all. No mail today. Studied our situation maps for a while in the evening. Although our line is shaping up somewhat, it is still rather fluid. I am still optimistic. Hit the sack at 2000.
Friday, 6 April [1945] Stambach, Germany1This is a small town in the southwest of Germany, today located in the Rhineland-Palatinate region. See Map, Site #27.
Up at 0500. We had breakfast at 0530, were packed and ready to pull out at 0700. We had to wait for several March Orders of the 347th combat team so we did not actually get under way until 1000. We traveled for several hours over country that was devoted almost exclusively to farming. Beautiful farm land, well farmed. As usual the women were doing the work. We passed two coal mines, not in operation of course, and after about 4 hours of sameness and having reached the point of saturation [continued on next page]
