Wrote two letters this evening. Hit the sack 2000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&nbsp;<\/em><strong>Saturday, 17 February [1945]   Auw, Germany<\/strong><br>Up at 0700. Beautiful sunrise but soon developed a ground mist which obscured everything. Bombers came over regardless of unfavorable weather. Found a nest of eggs today. Will have 3 for breakfast in the morning. I have the blues tonight in spite of good news from the various theaters of operation. Received one letter today. Wrote none. Brought situation map up to date. Hit the sack at 2100.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sunday, 18 February [1945]   Auw, Germany<\/strong><br>Up at 0700. Shaved and had breakfast by 0830. Had services for those who were able to attend. War brings everyone closer to religion. The sun popped out for a while today but evidently didn\u2019t like what it saw. En[emy] Shells fell in vicinity of 2D Platoon but our good luck continues: no casualties. I haven\u2019t been able to get into the mood for writing for several days. Hope this depression doesn\u2019t last.&nbsp; Received a package today from Johnny Ford<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"1\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000030110000000000000000_1928\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000030110000000000000000_1928-1\">1<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000030110000000000000000_1928-1\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"1\">&nbsp;Johnny Ford was Goetz\u2019s neighbor in Aberdeen, Maryland.&nbsp; <em>&nbsp;&nbsp;Interview with Mary Goetz, April 14, 2014.<\/em><\/span>. Was glad to get the package and please to be remembered. Laundered some clothes today and took a bath in an old washtub. Our artillery has been active all day. Studied maps for a while tonight. Hit sack at 2200.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Monday, 19 February [1945]   Auw, Germany<\/strong><br>Up at 0630. Awakened by 2 heavy explosions. Have been unable to determine what they were.
