{"id":1976,"date":"1945-03-01T19:06:00","date_gmt":"1945-03-01T19:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/humanitieslab.goucher.edu\/lest-i-forget\/?p=1976"},"modified":"2023-05-12T04:19:35","modified_gmt":"2023-05-12T04:19:35","slug":"page-73","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/humanitieslab.goucher.edu\/lest-i-forget\/diary\/page-73\/","title":{"rendered":"Page 73"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[<em>Continued on previous page<\/em>] The Germans are fighting a losing battle but they are still fighting.&nbsp; It is some consolation to know that every civilian killed is German, that every shell and every bomb drops on German soil and German industry.&nbsp; That every foot of progress is a reminder to the German people of Nazi lies.&nbsp; They may hold out for some time yet but they gain nothing but misery, hunger, death and destruction from their sowing of greed and aggression.&nbsp; Many planes flew over today.&nbsp; We couldn\u2019t see them because of the clouds.&nbsp; The 2D platoon was shelled again today.&nbsp; No casualties.&nbsp; Studied maps for a while tonight.&nbsp; Hit the sack at 2200.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Friday, 2 March [1945]   Auw, Germany<\/strong><br>Up at 0600.&nbsp; Had early chow, then went to Bn. picked up rations and mail, returned to C.P. Received 1 letter and a box of candy. Managed to write two letters tonight.&nbsp; The weather has turned a little colder.&nbsp; It is snowing now but don\u2019t believe that it will amount to anything.&nbsp; I have some cigars somewhere in the mail.&nbsp; I hope they arrive soon.&nbsp; They help my morale tremendously.&nbsp; Lots of planes today in spite of limited visibility. Plenty of armored forces in this vicinity.
