{"id":2024,"date":"1945-03-10T19:01:00","date_gmt":"1945-03-10T19:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/humanitieslab.goucher.edu\/lest-i-forget\/?p=2024"},"modified":"2023-05-12T04:31:11","modified_gmt":"2023-05-12T04:31:11","slug":"page-79","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/humanitieslab.goucher.edu\/lest-i-forget\/diary\/page-79\/","title":{"rendered":"Page 79"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Saturday, 10 March [1945]    Lissendorf, Germany<\/strong><br>Up at 0600.&nbsp; Shaved and had breakfast by 0730.&nbsp; The day has been eventful and interesting.&nbsp; One of \u201cD\u201d Btry.\u2019s men received a pistol wound last night and an \u201cA\u201d Btry. driver was seriously wounded, when his truck backed over a mine.&nbsp; We are cleaning out the pockets of Germans which were bypassed in our race to the Rhine.&nbsp; Prisoners are being taken in great numbers.&nbsp; So many at one time, that all we could do was disarm them and direct them to our lines.&nbsp; Our bridge head across the Rhine has been extended to a mile in depth.&nbsp; The Russians are beginning to move toward Berlin again.&nbsp; Everything is going our way at the present time.&nbsp; Some mail came in today.&nbsp; I received two letters but still no cigars.&nbsp; We are a mobile outfit and have many trucks available whenever we stay put for more than a day.&nbsp; We, in addition to our regular assignments, often use these trucks to bring up replacements or vital supplies.&nbsp; There is a radio, in the house, which we are using.&nbsp; We had our radio technician repair it and hooked it in to our own generator.&nbsp; It works very well.&nbsp; I hit the sack at 2100.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sunday, 11 March [1945]    Lissendorf, Germany<\/strong> <br>Up at 0700.&nbsp; This has been a very uneventful day.&nbsp; We cleaned our equipment and did general maintenance in preparation for a move to the Rhine which we expect in a day or two.&nbsp; Some of the men went to services in the morning, a division Chaplain presided.&nbsp; The weather has clouded up again.&nbsp;I packed a German Mauser today.<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"1\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000030110000000000000000_2024\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000030110000000000000000_2024-1\">1<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000030110000000000000000_2024-1\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"1\">&nbsp;Mauser was a German weapons manufacturer.
