{"id":2393,"date":"1945-04-19T18:21:00","date_gmt":"1945-04-19T18:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/humanitieslab.goucher.edu\/lest-i-forget\/?p=2393"},"modified":"2023-05-12T05:05:28","modified_gmt":"2023-05-12T05:05:28","slug":"page-111","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/humanitieslab.goucher.edu\/lest-i-forget\/diary\/page-111\/","title":{"rendered":"Page 111"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>[April] 19 thru 26 [1945]   Oberlosa, Germany<\/strong><br>The past week has been one of almost complete inactivity and no day in itself has been worthy of individual note.&nbsp; The weather was mostly cloudy and damp but yesterday and today have been warm and sunshiny.&nbsp; After the hurried pace which characterized the preceding 5 months, this week has been almost a garrison existence and as a result we have had much time on our hands with nothing to do.&nbsp; Each day seems interminable and each day sees us more eager to return home.&nbsp; There is much idle conjecture as to our future disposition and we are sweating out the possibility of a trip to the CBI, return to the states or a term as occupational forces.&nbsp; We should know before long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have been trying to reconcile myself to this business of Non-Fraternization but although I approve of it, theoretically, I cannot see it working in practice.<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"1\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000030110000000000000000_2393\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000030110000000000000000_2393-1\">1<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000030110000000000000000_2393-1\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"1\">A strict Non-Fraternization policy was put in place to control the relations between Allied soldiers and German civilians.&nbsp;Goetz saved a copy of this policy in his diary.&nbsp;See \u201cSpecial Orders of German-American Relations,\u201d issued by General Omar Bradley, Headquarters, Twelfth Army Group, Europe, n.d., Appendix, <em>Insert 14.<\/em><\/span>&nbsp;&nbsp;A few modifications would improve it materially.
